You are an awesome mom. I admire the way you come alongside your daughter. I can't find the words to express how critical it is for you to be you as you navigate where you fit in your daughter's journey. I know God chooses our children for us and he chooses us for our children, but I wish I had your wisdom, perspective, attitude, and drive for my daughters. Things would be different.

Thanks for this wise advice, Jane - "how critical it is for you to be you" rather than someone else! And how tempting it can be to try to be someone else for our kids, rather than ourselves.

I suspect that you gave your children many wonderful gifts and still do - even though I don't know them. But I have a gut feeling from getting to know you! Wishing you love and peace as you run your race too. :)

I loved this post - you write so beautifully. I secretly want to see this coach though. Maybe he can get me to run.

Loved this perspective and journey. Thanks for sharing!

I never realized how running could bring so much insight about life and challenges. The story about training for a race really resonated with me. It's amazing how lessons from running can apply to everyday struggles. Brilliant writing! 🏃‍♀️🙌

Thanks @Ahmet AKUSTA, PhD! I didn’t expect to learn so much about life from training for this race, either! I think the times when we stretch ourselves can lead to so much growth, if we are open to it! Peace.

Serena - such essential perspective in this piece. I especially resonated with this: “But this type of counting takes me out of my body and out of the present moment.” Keeping score, measuring, takes us into our mind, rather than staying in our heart, in our body, and in the moment, which, as you write is when Jesus and God become present to us. (They’re in us already, so why wouldn’t they come out and say hello and support us 😀). Thank you for writing this and sharing it with us.

Thanks so much, James! Your affirmation means so much, especially from the wisdom I've gleaned from your pieces too.

I notice how easily I move into counting, measuring, staying in the numbers and planning the next move - and how much harder it is to be in my heart and body. But awareness is that first step to change, right?

Sending you peace!
